Lighting occurs shortly after sunset and each performance event continues until midnight.
WaterFire, a World Class multi-sensory arts event, can be experienced in Providence, Singapore, Rome, Paris, Brussels, Houston, Kansas City, Columbus and now… SHARON, PA!
Over fifty sparkling bonfires on the Shenango River, the aroma of cedar and pine in the air, flickering firelight and silhouettes of firetenders passing by the flames as you stroll along the river and city streets enjoying enchanting music, ethnic food tastings and performers from around the globe. Dance to the sounds of a big band under the stars in an outdoor ballroom after participating in unique arts experiences throughout the day with the entire family. This is WaterFire Sharon.
Spend your day exploring the countries of the world during World Fire as the city of Sharon celebrates the food, art, dances and music of different cultures at the World Fire Expo. Using a passport find yourself immersed in cultural traditions and spend the day experiencing the sights, sounds and tastes of the world. Kids can participate in an ethnic art project where they gather pieces at booths located in each country – ending their experience with a decorated mask and stamps from around the world.
World Fire celebrates the distinct differences of the cultures blended into the American melting pot and at dusk literally extracts them from the melting pot as individual shining flames during the WaterFire lighting ceremony. Enjoy the aroma of cedar and pine in the air, flickering firelight and silhouettes of firetenders passing by the flames until Midnight during the World Fire WaterFire lighting as fire performers spin lighted poi and enchant you with other fire spectacles.
Enjoy a diverse range of performances on the PNC WaterFire Main Stage and on our State Street Bridge stages. Visit the Pottery Invitational at the James E. Winner Jr. Arts & Culture Center where a diverse range of installation pottery and ceramics are displayed. Try your hand at decorating and glazing a pot which is then Raku fired at the outdoor demonstration area and visit our outdoor pottery vendors and take a piece home with you. As the day comes to a close, warm up with the hot sounds of Latin dance band Azucar at the PNC WaterFire Ballroom and join in this salsa dancing experience or just watch the fiery moves of the featured salsa performers.

World Fire Expo
The World Fire Expo takes you on a journey of the countries of the world. Be sure to get your passport stamped as you immerse yourself in the cultural traditions of the land. Experience the food, music, art and dances of each country as your explore the globe. Visit other interactive exhibits and get your face painted, take home a photo booth photo or watch artwork being created. Delight all of your senses as you make your way through the World Fire Expo.
A diverse range of pottery and ceramics are exhibited by masters at the James E. Winner Jr. Arts & Culture Center during the Ceramic Invitational. The Ceramic Invitational is open from 10:00 a.m. – Midnight during World Fire.
In addition to the 24 artists exhibiting at the Ceramic Invitational, the entire three-floor venue is transformed into a gourmet art & culinary experience. Nova Cellars Winery, Fractured Grape Wine Cellars, Webb Winery and Wilhem Winery are located on the third floor of the building in the ‘Theatre on 3’ accompanied by entertainment from 2:00 p.m. – Midnight such as a strolling violinist, The River Saints and Butch Nichols & Company. Delight your taste buds with culinary treats by Chef Theo Gumbs, a native of the US Virgin Islands, and one of the Caribbean’s most accomplished chefs. Combining regional flavors with world cuisine, he has been featured on national broadcast stations such as Canada’s CTV, CBS Fox 5 Washington, DC and New York’s CW11 Morning Show. Chef Theo has also been a featured chef for many years at the “Taste of the Caribbean” in Montreal, Canada as well as the “St. Croix Food & Wine Experience” named one of the Ten Best International Food and Wine Festivals by Forbes Travel for the past three years.
Also be sure to visit Daffin’s Candies and Wendell August Forge in the lobby who have unique WaterFire Sharon merchandise. On your way out watch the Wendell August forgers at work or have you kids try their hand at an interactive forging experience!
Try your hand at a make and take project at the pottery decorating and glazing station. See a Raku firing demonstration – a type of firing process inspired by traditional Japanese Raku firing and involves removing the pottery from the wood-fired kiln and placing it into containers with combustible materials which produces interesting patterns and vibrant colors.
The PNC WaterFire Sharon Main Stage and Ballroom features the Latin music of Azucar beginning at 8:00 p.m. and playing until Midnight. Don’t know how to salsa? Come to the ballroom to learn a few steps from our featured salsa dancers Jeff and Colleen Shirey from Salsa Pittsburgh. Enjoy salsa performances throughout the evening as well.

Various performers are featured at our stages on the State Street Bridge World Stage throughout the day. Ethnic bands, interactive belly dancing, Japanese and African drumming and ethnic dance performances are just some of the cultural experiences you will find from 12:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
WaterFire Event Merchandise and Custom Artwork
Custom artwork has been created by regional artists for each WaterFire Sharon event that represents the theme of the day. WaterFire merchandise and prints of the themed artwork can be purchased at several WaterFire store locations.
WaterFire Interactive Community Art Projects
Try your hand at one of our three community art projects! Make a tile with your hopes and dreams to become part of a community mural, shoot paint balloons at a canvas that is then transformed into a glow-in-the-dark mural, decorate a folk art egg to add to our friendship tree or add a light to our Memorial Earthworks Art Installation.
