Waterfire Sharon 2016 Event Details

This year’s events are on July 16, August 20, and September 24.

August 20th:  Artists at Work

Artists and food vendors open at noon. Shop and enjoy the tastes of our festival throughout the day and evening. Come visit the WaterFire Food Court, located in the parking lot on South Dock St., and indulge in delicious foods while waiting for the braziers to light at dusk.
WaterFire2016_AugustKidsMore than sixty-five artisans and non-profit organizations will cover the downtown streets from the intersection of E. State and Dock St. through W. State Street and Main Street. We will feature fine artists, crafts vendors, jewelry makers, and more—a little something for everybody. Be sure to stop at every tent:  you never know what you’ll find!
The children’s area, located in the Primary Health Network parking lot behind PNC Bank (Chestnut Street) will see the return of giant puppet making, made entirely of recyclable materials. The July 16th event featured giant puppets made by children that day in a parade on State Street for all of our guests to see.
In addition to puppet making, check out coaster making with Pat Catan’s, coloring and fitness activities, board games, introduction to basic life-saving techniques by Sharon Regional Health System, and a demonstration by the Sharon School District’s Robotics team.
Waterfire Sharon is also proud to host the  PNC Mobile Learning Adventure (MLA), a traveling exhibit that provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to learn about early childhood education while engaging in fun activities with their children. It includes a “What I Want to be When I Grow Up” station that allows kids to dress up as different professionals and have their picture superimposed on appropriate backgrounds. Parents will receive take-home activity books and learning kits to help them make everyday moments into learning opportunities. The Mobile Learning Adventure and all it has to offer is FREE.
Guests can experience “artists at work” musically at one of our 3 stages beginning at 1 p.m.

Don’t miss the “Henry Ekker Autograph Collection,” a unique sports memorabilia display, at the Community Library from  10:00am to 5:00pm. This display is a treasure for sports enthusiasts featuring more than 300 items, including autographed pieces by Nadia Comaneci, Jesse Owens, and Muhammed Ali, among many others. If you’re interested in any type of sports – you will love this impressive collection! (Enjoy this display FREE.)
starlight-gardenVisit our “Starlight Garden,” located at the corner of South Water Avenue and Connelly Boulevard, from  5:00 to 10:00 p.m. For $20, donors will receive both a lit star with a ribbon and a luminary with a blank card. Write a wish or message on the ribbon, which will be hung with the lit star in “Starlight Garden.” The card is also meant for the donor to write their wish or message on, to be placed beneath the luminary.
After the wishes are written, WaterFire Volunteers will be onsite to hang the star within the garden where the donor chooses. This beautiful spot of light along the river is a magical environment where you can personalize your experience at WaterFire.
Keep an eye on the river throughout the early evening. You never know who will pop up on the bow of a boat! A painter? A ballerina? A sketch artist? You never know where our artists will show up to work!
The river festivities will begin at dusk. In keeping with our theme “Artists at Work” our torch procession will feature local and regional artists and WaterFire’s dedicated volunteers.
Be sure to visit the stage on the State Street Bridge for live performances throughout the evening, featuring some of the area’s finest young musical “artists at work.”
